Breaking the contract

I applaud The Bee's editorial [Oct. 8] endorsing a new face in the 19th Congressional District. Consider: What do Mark Foley, George Radanovich, Duke Cunningham, Robert Ney and Tom DeLay have in common? They are all Republican signatories to the 1994 Contract with America.

Remember, that was a solemn pledge to "restore accountability to Congress" and "end its cycle of scandal and disgrace." Item 10 of that contract limits legislators to a maximum of 12 years of service. Of the above signatories, only incumbent Rep. Radanovich is actively breaking that promise. Consider what might happen to you if you signed a contract you didn't honor.
