'Never had the nerve'

Vice President Dick Cheney said recently that dunking terrorism suspects in water during questioning was a "no-brainer." This statement could only come from a person who never had the nerve to serve in combat himself. Every time he or President Bush open their mouths on these things they know nothing about and have no clue of the consequences, they endanger our troops.

How the American people ever elected these two is beyond me.

Social critic H.L. Mencken said this in 1920: "As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts' desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

Quite prophetic, no? He could never have imagined we would have both a president and vice-president who fit the bill.
