Words escape me as I try to express my disgust at the latest tyrannical act of Donald Trump. His drive to increase admission fees to our national parks makes me want to throw up.
Who are the owners of America? Who owns our national parks ? The American people do, so why should we the people have to pay to see that which already belongs to us?
Many millions of Americans have fought to defend America. Hundreds of thousands have died defending our political boundaries and our way of life. Many of our veterans enlisted for financial reasons. They needed a source of income. Should they and their survivors now be denied the right to see the America they fought for because they live on the low end of the economic scale?
Should our national parks be reserved for the wealthy? Mr. Trump seems to think so. The roads and facilities in our parks must, of course, be constructed and maintained. But they should be funded via income taxes based on individual and corporate incomes not on “the wealthy in and the poor out” basis.
The very least that we can do is to let Americans see America without any government charge. Many of us have already paid the price.
Tourists from abroad are a different matter. They are not American taxpayers. They should share the cost of construction and maintenance in our parks via admission fees.
