Nunes holds ‘ignorant, destructive’ stand on climate change

I recently received an email newsletter from Devin Nunes proudly telling me how he denies climate change and the “left-wing radicals” who are trying to scare us. As an intelligent woman (who lives in this Valley of ever-warming temperatures), I am not only insulted by his comments but shocked that he can ignore the robust scientific evidence for climate change and the impact it will have on the Central Valley.

He reminds me of Flat Earth Society members, who denied the earth was round because it would change their world view. Their denial did not change the science and make the earth flat, and Nunes’ denial will not change the facts either. Unlike the Flat Earth Society beliefs, however, denying the facts will lead to real and expensive problems for this Valley, especially in farming.

Lack of chill hours will keep many fruit trees from producing healthy crops, pest populations will thrive and expand, and water evaporation rates will add to already difficult water issues.

Nunes’ stand against acting on climate change is not only ignorant, it is destructive to our livelihood.
