I attended the recent “Where’s Dev?” town hall meeting in Visalia. That’s a reference to Congressman Devin Nunes’s unfortunate practice of dodging any appearance at a public forum other than one packed with sycophants.
This forum was also packed – but not with those who agree with him. Of course, he never showed up. His aides give alternative-fact assertions that his opponents are frothing-at-the-mouth, left-wing crazies who are paid agitators and eco-terrorists. It’s obvious he just does not want to answer some serious questions about health care, immigration and especially accountability.
I have lived in Tulare County over 30 years now and have never seen people so upset with their representative. Nunes thinks that, with his money and advantage in voter registration, that he can ignore his constituency. I suggest that Nunes had better reassess his strategy. People are waking up to the fact that he is simply not paying attention to anyone who is not a big donor. Come 2018, people will not forget.
