How could I be so naïve? Just days ago, I was pleased to receive a letter from my Republican Congressman, Devin Nunes, replying to an earlier communication. Nunes thanked me for contacting him. He invited me to “continue to follow my work in Congress…”
Some work! On March 22, I learned with the rest of America that Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, hustled over that very day to the White House. He let President Trump know that Trump and/or his underlings may have been included in American spy agencies’ foreign surveillance.
Nunes spilled this information while serving – I repeat: as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. He made his White House visit, knowing that Trump is one focus of an FBI investigation into Russian meddling with our last presidential election.
I had assumed that my pen pal congressman was on the side of all us Americans who want to get to the bottom of this Russian attack on our free elections. This is precisely the sort of enemy spying caper that Nunes’ intelligence committee is designed to uncover. Instead, Nunes obviously considers his first obligation to be alerting the president to inside information about the president, the FBI inquiry be damned.
Methinks I need a new congressman.
