The banning of immigrants and the racial profiling of immigrants from certain Middle Eastern countries is unconstitutional. It is wrong and unethical to single out a specific region and religion of the world.
President Trump’s first executive order restricted immigration and travel from seven Muslim-majority countries and suspended all refugees for 120 days.
This ban was unconstitutional as the First Amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” It also violates the separation between state and federal power because it imposes an extraordinary burden on the states’ economies and governance without justification.
On Monday, another executive order was issued in an attempt to ban immigration and travel from six Muslim majority countries – even though the first one was rejected by the courts. The new ban excludes Iraq but ultimately is similar to the first order. It will take effect on March 16 and with it bring unnecessary unrest just like the first one did.
America is the land of the free, and the door to our country should always remain open to anyone.
