The city of Fresno should be applauded for the new Cultural Arts District park. However, I have to wonder who it is for, since the dedication was on ArtHop night, and the artists (like myself) who have studios weren’t able to go to the ceremony.
In addition, we had a very poor turnout at our studios, unusual for December. Many of the people who came to the ceremony and celebrated the new arts park might have come to ArtHop, if the dedication event had been scheduled on another night. I was told that the Arts Council requested that the city choose a different night for the very reasons I mention above, and the request was denied.
I find it not only ironic but insulting to the artists that the city would not only disrespect the artists who have worked very hard to create and promote Art Hop over the years but would create situations that make things harder for those very artists.

I hope that when scheduling future events at the Cultural Arts District Park, the artists who are supposedly being celebrated and served will be respected and conflicts avoided.
