With so much attention of the election being focused on the presidential race, the importance of the propositions can be forgotten. And as a parent, I feel it is a duty of mine to speak out about the ever so crucial Proposition 55.
A vote of “yes” on Proposition 55 prevents $4 billion from being slashed from California’s education system. I’ve heard concerns from fellow parents and members of our community that passing Proposition 55 means an increase in taxes, but that just is not the case.
Proposition 55 simply maintains the current income taxes on the wealthiest Californians, guaranteeing our children and teachers receive the academic funding they deserve. Fresno schools are already well behind the state’s academic standards, and a cutoff of funding would be catastrophic to both our children’s education and our city as a whole.
This shouldn’t be a Democrat vs. Republican issue. We as a community need to stand united and vote “yes” on Proposition 55 to ensure our children have the necessary resources to give them a chance to succeed in school and in life.
