The Fresno Bee’s recommendation of Jim Costa for the 16th Congressional district is right on the mark (“Costa, Valadao, Nunes and McCarthy deserve re-election to Congress,” Oct. 22).
Time and time again, Costa has proven he is a skilled negotiator on the issues affecting our community – from water resources to pollution to immigration – achieving results in a Congress too often consumed with partisan he-said/she-said politics.
But he doesn’t stop there. As an Armenian-American, with deep roots in the Valley, I was proud to read about Costa’s trip to Armenia this past summer – and his announcement of an endowment set up by a local entrepreneur at the American University of Armenia (AUA).
This builds on a partnership established between Fresno State and AUA earlier this year, making some excellent study abroad opportunities available to local college students in engineering, computer science, economics, public health and the law.
We need Costa’s type of results-oriented leadership – elected officials who understand how the political system works (and doesn’t work) and can identify effective ways to ensure Valley priorities are advanced – whether in Washington, D.C., or far off Armenia.
