In the primary election for the District 6 Fresno City Council seat, Granville Homes and the Assemi family spread the wealth, giving money to three of the four candidates.
First-place finisher Garry Bredefeld got $6,450 from Granville-related individuals, second place finisher Jeremy Pearce received $5,250 and Holly Carter, who came in third, got $4,250 plus an additional $4,190 in in-kind contributions.
This week, Granville may have indicated it’s all in for Bredefeld, who is facing Pearce in November.

On Wednesday, Granville subsidiaries GV Holdings Inc. and Panoche Pistachios LLC each gave $4,000 to Bredefeld. And the Assemi brothers Darius, who is Granville’s principal, and Farshid, principal at Central Distributing, contributed $2,000 each. A third Assemi brother, Farid, donated in $2,200 and finally Kevin Assemi, a Granville attorney, chipped in $1,000.
For those keeping score, that’s $15,200. All on a single day.
Darius Assemi couldn’t be reached for comment, but Bredefeld welcomed the support.
“We have tremendous broad-based support and our support continues to grow and get stronger every day,” Bredefeld said.
Bredefeld – who held the District 6 seat from 1997 through the end of 2000 – almost won the race in the June primary. There were four candidates, and Bredefeld came in first with 48.97 percent of the vote. If he’d been able to win more than 50 percent, it would have been over.
Instead, he’s facing Pearce, who came in second with 25.1 percent of the vote.
