Fresno businessman Richard Spencer is hosting a $1,000-per-person reception for House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Washington Republicans Wednesday at Harris Construction near Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
The main event starts at 5:30 p.m., though a half-hour earlier there’s a $5,000 per couple private reception that includes a photo opportunity with McCarthy, a Bakersfield Republican. Checks are payable to the McCarthy Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee made up on Kevin McCarthy for Congress, the Majority Committee political action committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
“In 2016, Democrats will do everything in their power to take back a House majority,” Spencer wrote in a letter send to prospective attendees. “Your continued support is crucial to ensure that our members and candidates here in California, and across the country, have the resources to build winning campaigns to fend off Democratic challengers.”
Spencer’s letter also says he’s going to “add to the format” by inviting people from health care, water, city leadership, farming and education to ask McCarthy questions.
Besides Spencer, the Host Committee includes Granville Homes President Darius Assemi, west-side rancher John Harris and his wife Carole, Fresno businessman Ed Donaghy and his wife Janice, Valley farmer Tony Campos and his wife, Juliette and businessman Bob Smittcamp, among others.
