REPLAY: Fresno County judge candidates Gamoian, Hill debate

Watch a replay of Monday's debate between Fresno County Superior Court judge candidates Lisa Gamoian and Rachel Hill.

The debate, broadcast by the Community Media Access Collaborative (CMAC), was part of the Rotary Club of Fresno's luncheon meeting. Bill McEwen, The Bee's editorial page editor, was the moderator.

Gamoian is Fresno County chief deputy district attorney and Hill is a law professor and former deputy DA. They advanced to the November runoff from a five-person June primary field.

In the run-up to that election, both Gamoian and Hill said jail overcrowding and early releases of inmates are major issues affecting the courts.

Gamoian said if elected, she'll focus on getting cases through the system quicker.

Hill said her experience as both a prosecutor and defense attorney gives her a good understanding of proper rehabilitative programs for some offenders, instead of jail time.

The candidates are vying to replace Judge Robert Oliver, who is retiring after nearly 20 years on the Superior Court bench.
