Water & Drought

Drought takes an obvious toll on Millerton Lake

It's easy to see the effects of the drought in these comparison photographs showing the Millerton Courthouse as it sits atop a bluff overlooking Millerton Lake.

The top photo was taken in May of 2009 with the water level at a high point, while the bottom photo was taken Tuesday where the water isn't visible at the same angle.

The capacity of the lake is 520,500 acre feet. Today, the volume of water in the lake is at 270,284 acre feet, or 51.9% of capacity.
