A dozen Chinese government and railroad officials will visit Fresno on Saturday to learn more about local plans for California's proposed high-speed rail system.

Representatives of Fresno Works expect to meet with the delegation to discuss their hopes to attract a maintenance depot for high-speed trains for a site at the south edge of Fresno.

In addition to a video tour of the expected high-speed rail route through the Fresno area, several of the visitors will go on a helicopter tour over the depot site.

Fresno Works is a joint effort of city and county elected officials and business leaders working to bring the maintenance facility project -- and as many as 1,500 permanent jobs -- to Fresno County.

The Chinese delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Railways and China Railway Construction Corp. Also meeting with the Chinese will be program management consultants for the California High-Speed Rail Authority.
