Ecy King is described by her Clovis West High School counselor, Janet Duke, as being “extremely bright” and involved in many school and community activities. When Ecy found out she was to be an Academic All-Star, she said the family was in disbelief.
“What separates Ecy from her classmates is that she is driven by a personal motto to help others see their fullest potential,” said Duke, a guidance learning director. “She lives out her life motto to always be happy and to make others happy. She is one of the most down-to-earth, humble and sweetest individuals at Clovis West High School. I see her quite frequently because I pride myself in working with my freshmen as they transition to ninth grade and high school.”
Ecy, 15, stands out in a crowd because of her good-natured and loving personality, Duke said. She’s a friend to all.
Ecy’s mother, Nina, said she was excited by the news her daughter was named an Academic All-Star.
“She continues to amaze us,” Nina King said.
Ecy’s dad, Rodney, hopes for big things for his daughter.
“What would make me happy is for her to make a big difference in other people’s lives – especially people who are disadvantaged,” he said.
Ecy doesn’t know quite yet what she wants to be when she grows up, but her dream college is Stanford. She has a 4.0 GPA at Clovis West.
“I want to apply my talents to help as many people as possible,” she said.
Duke said, “She is diverse in her activities – academics, sports, singing and volunteer work. She is the epitome of a Fresno Bee Academic All-Star.”
“I truly can’t wait to see where Ecy goes in life. She is truly an inspiration to all of us – peers and staff – at Clovis West.”
