Fresno State’s Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is partnering with the Fresno State Student Cupboard for the eighth annual “Caroling for Cans” event at Cindy Lane, also known as Holiday Lane, in Clovis to help those in need.
This year’s goal is to collect at least 2,000 non-perishable food items and hygiene products for students visiting the Fresno State Student Cupboard over the holiday season. For the first time, collection efforts will take place both on- and off-campus to allow the Clovis community to participate.
On Dec. 10, students walked around the Fresno State campus picking up non-perishable food and hygiene items collected by various offices and sang holiday carols to thank donors for participating in the drive.
On Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ASI Executives and Senators will go to Cindy Lane to collect items from patrons and residents. This was made possible by the Clovis Community Foundation’s Chairman Mark Keppler, who lives in the neighborhood and works at Fresno State as executive director of the Maddy Institute and as a professor in the Craig School of Business.
The carolers will be accepting donations at 538 W. Bedford Ave. in Clovis.
“Food security is a top priority for Fresno State student leaders,” said ASI Program and Volunteer Coordinator Ashleigh Rocker. “Whether it is hosting a distribution of food in the neighborhoods next to campus or collecting cans for students on campus, ASI has made it a priority to address this issue head on.”
