The Special Education Adaptive Physical Education program will host its annual Power Walking Challenge Friday starting at 10 a.m. at Woodward Park in the Shakespeare Group Activities area.
About 450 special education students will walk or jog independently or in wheelchairs up to one mile on a predetermined course.
Students from Transition Aides and Kerman High School Leadership class volunteer at the event by pushing wheelchairs and cheering for participants. Fresno State athletes will hand out ribbons to the children as they cross the finish line.
The Fresno County Office of Education holds the event to encourage a healthy lifestyle for students with special needs.
