Speakers to address Common Core at Immanuel High event

Three speakers will address elements of the Common Core education system Thursday night at Immanuel High School in Reedley.

The event, sponsored by Advocates for Excellence in Education, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school's auditorium at 1128 South Reed Ave.

The speakers are Bill Evers, former assistant U.S. education secretary; Lance Izumi, senior director of education studies at Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy; and Ze'ev Wurman, former senior policy adviser for the U.S. Department of Education.

Wurman served as a commissioner on the California Academic Content Standards Commission and currently serves as a member of the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.
