McLane students spotlight civil rights movement in art exhibit

McLane High School students will host a preview at 6 p.m. Monday of their upcoming art exhibit that will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the “Freedom Summer” campaign in Mississippi.

The exhibit, held at Butler Church in southeast Fresno, coincides with Black History Month and will include 12 pieces spotlighting the civil rights movement campaign, which launched in June 1964 as an effort to register black voters in Mississippi.

The art exhibit will be the first in a series showcasing students’ work on the “Freedom Summer” campaign.
