Fresno Pacific University is on track to set an enrollment record this fall, officials said Friday.
The six-day preliminary report shows a 20% overall increase to more than 3,200 students in the traditional undergraduate, graduate and bachelor's degree completion programs. About 1,100 are new students.
Final enrollment numbers will come in mid-September.
Stephen Varvis, vice president of enrollment management, said many students are returning to school to prepare for the new economy. Others are transferring from more expensive schools or crowded public colleges and universities.
Fresno Pacific didn't increase tuition in 2010 and has stepped up efforts in financial aid, recruitment and student services, Varvis said.
