Coalinga High School students again show the way at state chess championships

Coalinga High School students brought home awards after placing in the Northern California Scholastic State Chess Championships at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Nine total chess players from Fresno County competed, with five from Coalinga High.

Brett Wong and David Carmona from Coalinga won the 12th-grade team division, and Bryce Wong and Jonathan Albrecht from Coalinga won the 10th-grade team division. As an individual, Brett Wong was also named the 12th-grade champion.

The Coalinga School District has accumulated a total of 25 wins at the State Chess Championships in the primary, elementary, middle school, and high school divisions throughout the years.
