Valley mentors needed in construction fields

Professionals in the architecture, engineering and building trades are being sought by the Central California Builders Exchange to serve in the ACE Mentor Program.

ACE -- an acronym for architecture, construction, and engineering -- pairs working pros with local high school students who want to prepare for careers in design and construction.

Participating in the coming 2010-11 school year are Fresno's Design Science, Edison, Duncan Polytechnical and Hoover high schools; Liberty High School in Madera; Clovis High School and Kerman High School.

Participating companies and mentors work with groups of 15 to 30 students, meeting with them throughout the year to create a design project that is presented at the end of the year.

An informational meeting for would-be mentors will be at 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at Central California Builders Exchange, 1244 N. Mariposa St. in Fresno.
