Fresno students advance in business plan contest

Five Fresno high school students advanced to regional competition from the fourth annual Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Central Valley Regional Business Plan Competition, hosted Saturday by the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at California State University, Fresno.

The regional competition is 6-9 p.m. May 20 at International Catering, 4277 N. West Ave. in Fresno.

The five who advanced (from a field of nine) with their school and business plan:

Brenda Garcia, Bullard: Tres Petite Apparel, clothing for petite women.

Mai Vang, Duncan Polytechnical: Enjoy, a dessert business.

Brittany Gray, Edison: Handy Candy, a candy-selling business.

Ashlee Rocha, Fresno: Heart Me, plus-size clothing for children and teens.

Vernave Medrano, Roosevelt: Vernave's Pottery, custom pottery.

Regional winners will compete in the national competition in New York for a $10,000 prize and an internship in the student's field.
