Kathryn “Katie” Davis, president of the Sierra Senior Center in Oakhurst, changed her plea Monday to no contest in a financial elder abuse case, the Madera County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Davis, 54, was arrested June 23 for allegedly swindling money from Bill Youngs, 90, who volunteered at the center.
Sentencing was set for Nov. 28. Davis faces a possible sentence of one year in the Madera County Jail. But as part of her plea agreement, if she repays $30,000 to the victim and his family by the sentencing date, her charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor.
In July, the Sierra Star reported that Youngs’ son-in-law Chuck Nugent said that security footage shows Youngs was present with Davis at a Madera bank where the money was transferred, but Youngs doesn’t remember being there.
