Fresno police believe a dispute possibly related to street prostitution may be the motive for the city’s 21st murder this year, which occurred late Thursday night.
Lt. Burke Farrah said the department’s ShotSpotter system registered two gunshots at 11:52 p.m. and officers found a 29-year-old man who had been shot near Fresno Street and Belmont Avenue. The man died at Community Regional Medical Center. He was identified Friday afternoon by the Fresno County coroner as Christopher Stamps, 29, of Fresno.
Last year at this time, there were 30 murders in the city.
Anyone with information about the slaying is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP.
