A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a central Fresno shooting that left a man in critical condition on Aug. 2, Sgt. Steve Viveros said.
Valentino Valdez was arrested after he allegedly shot a man on the 1200 block of East Clinton Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. on Aug. 2 because the victim would not end a relationship with his ex-girlfriend.
A gunshot wound to the man’s leg at close proximity broke several bones and severed an artery, Viveros said.
The victim, 52, was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery for more than eight hours and remained unconscious for several days, Viveros said.
When he regained consciousness, Viveros said the victim identified Valdez as the shooter. He was arrested around 1 p.m. Wednesday by undercover officers with the Street Violence Section Tactical Team after he was spotted leaving a home in the 200 block of West Amador Avenue in southwest Fresno.
The shotgun used in the shooting was located after a search warrant was issued for the residence. Valdez was booked in the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
