Fresno County Jail inmate dies from self-inflicted wounds, sheriff’s office says

A Fresno County Jail inmate who attempted to hang himself on Aug. 2 died Saturday after he was taken off life support, the sheriff’s office said.

John Mayberry, 22, of Fresno, was found by correctional officers around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 2 inside his cell, where he had tried to hang himself, the sheriff’s office said. Mayberry was alone in the cell.

An ambulance rushed Mayberry to Community Regional Medical Center and he was taken off of life support Saturday.

Mayberry had been in the jail since March 8, when he was booked on robbery charges.
