A man accused of shooting at a 15-year-old boy near Belmont and Millbrook avenues Sunday evening was arrested by Fresno police.
Jesus Bermudez, 44, was taken into custody near Tulare Avenue and First Street about 6 p.m. after police received a report from a motorist that someone in a red van shot at the boy at Hidalgo Elementary School, police Sgt. Paul Cervantes said.
Officers saw the van a short time later and arrested Bermudez. Cervantes said Bermudez initially refused to obey officers’ commands and got out of the van with his hand in the waistband of his pants.
Officers found a loaded .22 caliber revolver under the van. Bermudez was booked on weapons charges.
Cervantez said officers “exercised a tremendous amount of restraint in making the arrest” and “a tragic event was avoided despite the fact that Bermudez discarded a loaded firearm when officers had him at gunpoint.”
