Fresno police seized eight pounds of methamphetamine and arrested two men believed to have ties to Mexican drug cartels Monday at a hotel near Highway 99 and Parkway Drive.
Arrested were Armando Gamaz Beltran, 50, and Zamora Reyes Betancourt, 46.
Sgt. Tim Tietjen of the department’s Major Narcotics Unit said the arrests took place after the unit negotiated the transaction with individuals in Mexico.
The street value of the drugs was estimated at $32,000. Police also impounded a car with Sonora, Mexico license plates after making the drug buy.
“Each bust makes a difference,” Tietjen said. He added that methamphetamine use drives auto theft, burglaries and other crimes in the Fresno area.
