A 76-year-old woman who was walking near River Park was hit by a 72-year-old man in a vehicle Tuesday afternoon as she crossed a street in northeast Fresno, police said.
The woman broke her hip and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition only a few hours before she died, Fresno police Lt. Joe Gomez said.
An officer had visited her to check on her condition after the initial accident, where she seemed to be in stable condition, Gomez said. But she later died, possibly due to her age and the type of her injury, Gomez said.
The collision happened around 2:48 p.m. as she was crossing the street on El Paso Avenue, near River Park, when the man hit her in the crosswalk. It wasn’t immediately known if the driver ran a red light, but he is cooperating with police, Gomez said. A collision reconstruction team will be investigating to determine if the driver may be charged.
