Two teenagers, 16 and 17, are in custody after a pair of armed robberies Thursday morning between Hoover High School and Fresno State, police reported. The robberies of two high school students prompted a lockdown of Hoover.
Both the suspected bandits and the students are high school students. Lt. Joe Gomez said the first robbery took place shortly after 6 a.m. as a student was walking near Millbrook and Barstow avenues when he was accosted by two juveniles, one armed with a handgun. He was robbed of his backpack and cell phone.
About an hour later, a 15-year-old girl was confronted near Fourth Street and Bulldog Lane by two juveniles who matched the description of the suspects. One of the bandits pointed a gun at her head and the girl’s backpack and cell phone were taken. As the suspects ran, at least one round was fired.
Gomez said officer Johnny Sotto spotted a pair who matched the description of the suspects at a gasoline station on the corner of First Street and Barstow. When he tried to speak with them, the pair ran. Both were captured after officers called in a helicopter and dogs. Officers also recovered a revolver.
