2-liter bottle bombs prompt temporary closure of Clovis park

Police responding to a shots fired call found several exploded 2-liter bottle bombs in a Clovis park, forcing its temporary closure on Saturday, said Sgt. Vince Weibert of the Clovis Police Department.

Authorities shut down Century Park near Century Elementary School around 8 a.m. after finding one 2-liter bomb that had not yet exploded. The bottle bombs generally are made by children. Shutting down the park was purely for safety reasons until the bomb could be dealt with, police say.

Police searched the area but did not find any additional bombs. There are no suspects at this time and anyone with information is urged to call the Clovis Police Department at (559) 324-2800.

There were no injuries.
