Three people were arrested Thursday after DEA agents apprehended a suspected fentanyl trafficker on Highway 99 in Fresno.

According to a DEA spokesperson, agents encountered a vehicle near Jensen Avenue and East Street around 4 p.m.. The driver attempted to flee and collided with several DEA vehicles before being taken into custody on Highway 99.

A passenger in the suspect vehicle fled the scene and was picked up by another unrelated vehicle, the spokesperson said. That driver cooperated with investigators.

The case remains under investigation, following what authorities described as an attempted assault on federal agents.

Traffic was slowed on the Highway 180 onramp from 99.
