Fresno police are investigating a homicide that took place early Tuesday in east-central Fresno.
The Fresno County coroner’s office identified the dead man Wednesday as Von Randell Correia, 29.
The fatal shooting took place on Shields Avenue near Maple Avenue at 12:16 a.m., said Lt. Mark Salazar of the department’s Street Violence Section. Officers found Correia wounded at the scene who was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
An officer happened to be across the street from the shooting, heard gunfire and saw a car speeding away, Salazar said. The car was pulled over near the Highway 168 onramp and officers determined that the two men and a woman in the vehicle were related to the shooting. There was no weapon in the car, but a handgun was found along the route between the scene and the traffic stop.

Police were questioning the three and it is possible the shooting was drug-related, Salazar said.
No other information about the case or Correia has been released.
