If you witness a crime, here’s what to do
A 52-year old man is dead following a shooting in southeast Fresno on Sunday night.
Police responded to a call of multiple shots fired in the area of Halloway Avenue near Jensen Avenue around 8:30 p.m. and found the man lying on the sidewalk, according to Lt. Charlie Chamalbide with the Fresno Police Department.
The victim was identified Tuesday by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office as Alejo Armenta of Fresno.
He suffered multiple shots at close range from two handguns and died at Community Regional Medical Center.
Police retrieved several handgun rounds at the scene, Chamalbide said.
The motive for the violence was not immediately clear. They believe it may be connected to a disturbance at a liquor store in the area.
Fresno police provided an update Wednesday, announcing they have two “persons of interest” in custody on unrelated charges.
“We are also asking anyone with information regarding the handguns and suspect vehicle, described as a mid-size green SUV, to please call,” police said.

“This was a violent and senseless murder and showed a complete disregard for human life,” police wrote in a news release. “Alejo was beloved in the community, was not a gang member and was not involved in any gang or criminal activity. Alejo was shot for no reason as he was simply in front of 2579 S. Holloway.”
