The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to be on the lookout for a dark-colored Chevy Astro-style van.
Deputies believe the late ’90s or early 2000s van was used in an alleged rape. The driver of the van is suspected of picking up a teenage girl on April 2 with the promise of a job selling fruit at a corner stand, according to a Facebook post Monday afternoon by the sheriff’s office.
Instead, the man drove the girl to a rural area and told her he had a gun, threatening to kill her and her family unless she undressed. The suspect then raped the girl at three different locations, the sheriff’s office said. The girl did not see a gun, but did see a machete on the floor of the van.
The subject was described as a large, dark-complected, Hispanic male in his 20s, with a shaved head and no facial hair. He was wearing khaki pants, black boots and a red shirt with small blue lettering on the chest.
Anyone with information about this incident, or the possible whereabouts of the vehicle or suspect is asked to contact the Madera County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at 559-675-7770.
The sheriff’s office is also asking that the public not approach or contact the suspect or suspect vehicle, but to call 911.
