Cregg Jerri honored for stopping Starbucks robbery
Cregg Jerri, who thwarted the robbery of a Starbucks barista in July 2017, was honored Thursday by Fresno Mayor Lee Brand with a medal from the Carnegie Hero Fund.
The award was presented during the Fresno City Council session. The Carnegie Medal is awarded to individuals in the United States and Canada who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree saving or attempting to save the lives of others.
“I’m glad there are heroes like Cregg who aren’t afraid to do the right thing,” Brand said.
The mayor also proclaimed Thursday as “Cregg Jerri Day.”
It was just the latest honor for Jerri, who was feted in 2017 by Police Chief Jerry Dyer for heroism.
Ryan Michael Flores, 30, was armed with a fake gun and a knife at the coffee shop near Herndon Avenue and Highway 99. Jerri suffered a knife wound near the jugular vein in the attack and Flores reportedly sustained 17 knife wounds as the struggle ended up on the ground.
