Tulare County Sheriff's Office

Charges will not be filed, at least for now, against Cameron Ware, 28, who was in a car with a suspect who fired on Tulare police officers before the susupect was killed by return gunfire, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said.

A police officer was wounded in the Sunday night incident, and his police dog, Bane, was killed. The name of the man who died in the gun battle will not be released until a Friday autopsy, according to the Tulare County Coroner’s Office. The officer involved in the shooting has not been identified.

“It is of paramount importance that a thorough, exhaustive investigation be completed for a full understanding of the events of that fateful evening,” said a statement issued by District Attorney Tim Ward’s office.

“At this time, preliminary information provided to us indicates that Mr. Ware was not driving the vehicle, nor did he fire any shots. However, this is a complex and continuing investigation and we ask for patience as the (Sheriff’s Office) conducts its investigation.”
