Two alleged car thieves were arrested after leading Visalia police on a chase that ended with one of the men jumping from a two-story balcony.

Sgt. Gary Williams said Jose Mendoza, 23 and Edgar Corona, 28, were in a stolen vehicle driving south on Conyer Street around 2:35 p.m. on Saturday when police attempted to pull them over.

Instead of stopping, they fled west on Tulare Avenue, almost hitting another car, Williams said. Officers called off the pursuit when Mendoza, the driver, turned onto Mooney Boulevard driving the wrong way.

Mendoza stopped in a T-Mobile parking lot and both men ran. Corona was apprehended at a nearby Starbucks, Williams said.

Mendoza ran into an apartment complex on Central Street and jumped from a two-story balcony, Williams said. Police arrested him after he landed. There was no word if he suffered injuries.

Both men were booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility. The vehicle was returned to its owner.
