A woman and a child in a stolen vehicle fled after a hit-and-run crash Tuesday, then assaulted a detective while being arrested shortly after, the Tulare County Sheriff's Office reported.
The two-vehicle accident occurred at noon at Avenue 256 and Mooney Boulevard (Route 63), northeast of the city of Tulare and south of Visalia.
The assaulted sergeant was not named, but officials said he was not injured during the assault.
Officers arrested Angelica Chapa, 21. An age was not given for the child, who was identified only as a juvenile female.
Sheriff officials said they both assaulted the detective during the arrest, and will face charges of alleged felony hit and run, assault on a peace officer, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The Lindsay Police Department is investigating the case.
