A Fresno High student is being treated for a gunshot wound in the foot after he came to school bleeding Tuesday morning, police reported.
Lt. Joe Gomez said the shooting happened early Tuesday. Police went to Griffith Way and Warren Avenue, near the major intersection of West and Ashlan avenues, just before 1 a.m. to check a report that shots were fired. They found the 17-year-old victim, whose wound did not appear to be self-inflicted. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. Officers found shell casings nearby and a nearby home had been struck by bullets.
The victim told officers he and a friend were walking along Griffith Way when they saw a car coming toward them. The driver asked, “Where you from?” The victim and his friend said they were not gang members, but the driver told them to “take off your hoodies before I get to bustin’.”
Someone in the car then opened fire, Gomez said, and the victim and his friend ran.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
