An apparent hit-and-run victim found Sunday night on the side of McKinley Avenue west of Highway 99 later died at a hospital Fresno police said.

Police say they’re looking for a silver 1997 5 Series BMW with a missing passenger mirror that they believe was involved in the hit-and-run.

Lt. Michael Landon said police received a call just before 8:15 p.m. of a man down on the side of the road on McKinley just west of Brawley Avenue. Officers arrived to find an unconscious man and started administering CPR. Medical crew members took up the lifesaving effort and rushed the man to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Landon said investigators found evidence of a hit-and-run. McKinley was blocked just west of Brawley for the investigation.

After officers taped off McKinley, a woman driving a Volkswagen Beetle failed to stop at the stop sign on McKinley at Brawley and blasted through the tape before coming to a stop. No one was injured; the driver was being investigated for possible DUI, Landon said.

The hit-and-run’s identity wasn’t released pending notification of relatives. No other information was immediately available.
