A Fresno County man was accused of attempted murder after he stabbed his girlfriend’s brother, who was checking in after the couple got into a fight.
Jose Aguilar, 25, and his girlfriend got into a “domestic disturbance” one night at their Biola Village apartment west of Highway 99. The couple has a past history of arguments, said Tony Botti, a spokesman for the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
On Friday, the girlfriend’s brother visited the apartment to check on the woman. While there, he got into a heated argument that turned into a physical fight with Aguilar, Botti said.
Aguilar grabbed a steak knife from the kitchen and stabbed the brother. The wound was not very deep, and the victim left the apartment without seeking medical treatment.
The victim notified deputies about the fight on Sunday. When deputies showed up to Aguilar’s home near Shaw and Third avenues, he ran out the back door.
A short time later, deputies saw Aguilar and a woman pass by in a car. Deputies were able to stop the car and arrest Aguilar. They learned his girlfriend picked him up and planned to help him escape. She was issued a citation for being an accessory.
Aguilar was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder in the first and second degree. He remained in jail Monday on $500,000 bail.
