Police: Tulare robber asked bank to transfer money, not hand it over

An unusual bank robbery occurred Monday in Tulare, police said.

The suspect didn’t ask for cash but demanded that money be transferred into an account.

The incident happened about 2:50 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 200 block of East Tulare Avenue where police responded to a report of a bank robbery in progress.

The bank robber passed a note to the teller demanding that funds be transferred, police said.

Information by a bank employee helped police arrest Nichiren Flowers, 31, of Tulare, without incident. He was booked into a Tulare County jail.

It’s still being determined if the account number in the note had been fabricated, police said.
