One person shot at apartments near Fresno State

A 21-year-old man who was selling magazine subscriptions at an apartment complex just north of Fresno State was shot in the abdomen Monday, and police are looking for the assailant, Lt. Joe Gomez said.

The shooting happened about 1:42 p.m. in the parking lot of the Cedar Tree Apartments at 1755 E. Roberts Ave., near Cedar Avenue.

Gomez said the victim and another man were going door to door selling subscriptions when the victim was approached by a Hispanic male in a red shirt who asked where the victim where he was from. The victim told the man he didn’t “gangbang,” Gomez said. That’s when the man pulled a handgun and fired once, wounding the victim.

The shooter fled, as did the man who was accompanying the victim.

The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. He was apparently trying to sell door to door, police said. The victim was conscious and talking when he went into the ambulance.

Anyone who can identify the shooter is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 497-STOP. Citizens can received a cash reward if their information leads to the arrest of the suspect.
