Police arrested a 35-year-old man who disrupted a southeast Fresno neighborhood for several hours early Sunday, allegedly pointing what was believed to be a real gun at people while intoxicated.
Officers responded to disturbance calls about 12:15 a.m. at a home in the 900 block of South Orange Avenue. Neighbors told police the man had pointed a gun at them and learned from the suspect’s mother the man was intoxicated, though highly unlikely to posses a gun.
Police monitored the man from afar for several hours and used less than lethal force to detain the man, who had been seen screaming and laughing and appeared agitated. Officers recovered a toy gun tucked in the suspect’s waistband.
Ernest Barela was arrested about 3 a.m. and was booked into Fresno County Jail.
