Girl who died of drug overdose in Visalia lived in Seville

A girl who died from a drug overdose has been identified as Gina Banuelos, 17, of Seville, the Tulare County Coroner’s Office said Monday.

The man who gave her illegal narcotics, Jose Marquez Tovar, 25, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

About 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Visalia police got a 911 call that a young woman had passed out and was having difficulty breathing.

Officers went to a home in the 4300 block of West Damsen Avenue and started CPR. She was pronounced dead at Kaweah Delta Medical Center.

Tovar, who lived at the home, gave her illegal narcotics, police said. They were not romantically involved, police said.

Tovar was booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility.
