Three arrested after police find a rifle during traffic stop in southeast Fresno

Three men were arrested Saturday evening after a search during a traffic stop yielded a rifle and ammunition, police said.

Fresno police Sgt. Brian Phillips said that officers with the Fresno Police Department’s Violent Crime Impact Team attempted to stop a car just before 5 p.m. in the area of Cedar and Hamilton avenues in southeast Fresno. The car did not stop and continued to a nearby cul-de-sac, where the driver got out and ran from police.

Police apprehended the driver, identified as 28-year-old Tari Ivory, and found ammunition in his pockets, Phillips said. Officers then found a Ruger Mini-14 rifle in the backseat of Ivory’s vehicle.

Ivory was booked on suspicion of being a convicted felon with a gun and ammunition, attempting to evade police and a misdemeanor drug charge.

Vincent Rogers, 18, and Maurice Brown, 19, were also arrested on weapons charges as they were the ones sitting on the rifle in the backseat, Phillips said.
