11 pounds of meth discovered after Highway 99 traffic stop

Eleven pounds of methamphetamine valued at $50,000 was seized Thursday after a traffic stop near Le Grand, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A CHP spokesman said an officer pulled over a 1998 Honda Accord on Highway 99 about 3:30 p.m. and determined the driver, Rafael Hernandez Espinoza, 27, of Oregon did not have a valid driver’s license.

The car was impounded and the drugs were discovered in a tool bag during an inventory search.

Espinosa was jailed on felony drug charges.
